About the Role
Destination NWT is seeking enthusiastic Tour Guides in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This role involves leading various tours focusing on historical sites, sightseeing, bus tours, and walking tours across Canada. Work environments include outdoors, in/on water, with potential odours, in both urban and remote settings.
Key Responsibilities
As a Tour Guide, you will drive sightseeing vehicles, confirm transportation and accommodation reservations, and collect fees. You will coordinate recreation activities, describe points of interest, answer questions, and provide information to visitors. Responsibilities also include resolving itinerary problems, monitoring luggage transfers, and assisting clients with check-in procedures. You will utilise communication devices to provide directions, coordinate with local guides, and offer information on customs and currency. Assisting clients with special needs and interpreting language for individuals or small groups are also part of the role.
Qualifications & Skills
Candidates are not required to hold a degree, certificate, or diploma, and experience is considered an asset. Proficiency in English or French is required. Desired personal attributes include client focus, dependability, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, flexibility, initiative, judgement, organisation, reliability, and being a team player. The role is physically demanding, involving repetitive tasks, standing for extended periods, walking, and working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
