About the Role
North Star Trucklines Inc. is seeking a dedicated Long Haul Truck Driver to join their team in Edmonton, Alberta. This position involves transporting goods and materials across provincial, territorial, and international routes. This role is LMIA-positive, supporting applications from international candidates.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include operating and driving straight or articulated trucks for long-haul transport. Drivers will plan or adjust routes using navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and emissions, and may be required to drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. Tasks also involve loading and unloading goods, tarping, and ensuring the safety and security of cargo, including dangerous goods. Performing pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency roadside repairs are essential. Drivers must record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption, and relay information to central dispatch. Obtaining special permits and other documents for international routes is also part of the role.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate and have 1 to less than 2 years of experience as a long haul driver. Essential certifications include an Air Brakes Endorsement, a Class 1/1F/A Licence for semi-trailer trucks, and a Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate. Applicants should have knowledge of accident or incident reports, driver logbooks, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), trans-border documentation, and trip reports. A valid passport is required, along with a driver's validity licence check, driving record check (abstract), and drug test. The role requires handling heavy loads, repetitive tasks, and prolonged sitting, demanding attention to detail. Personal suitability includes being organized, reliable, a team player, hardworking, and patient. Own tools required include a cellular phone and safety vest. Travel expenses are paid by the employer.
