About the Opportunity
Woodhouse Contracting Ltd is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join their team in Rossland, British Columbia. This position involves working in various construction settings including residential, commercial, and renovation projects. The work environment can include working at heights, in confined spaces, and may be noisy, dusty, and outdoors. The role primarily focuses on maintenance and repair tasks.
Employment terms include morning, day, and weekend shifts, with overtime opportunities available. Supervision of 1 to 2 apprentices or other workers is expected.
Key Responsibilities
As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements. You will prepare layouts in conformance to building codes using appropriate measuring tools. Key tasks involve measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining materials such as wood, wood substitutes, and lightweight steel.
Further responsibilities include building foundations, installing floor beams, laying subflooring, and erecting walls and roof systems. You will also fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware. Additionally, you will instruct apprentices and supervise other workers, while maintaining, repairing, and renovating residences and wooden structures across various establishments like mills, mines, hospitals, and industrial plants.
Qualifications & Skills
Candidates must have a secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience, along with 2 to less than 3 years of relevant experience in the field. Proficiency in English is required for this role. You should have experience with hand tools and be able to provide your own tools, safety equipment, steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, and safety vest.
This physically demanding role requires the ability to handle heavy loads, perform tasks such as bending, crouching, and kneeling, and manage a large workload under tight deadlines. You must be comfortable working with minimal supervision. A valid driver's licence and own transportation are essential, as the role requires willingness to travel to various locations.
